Oh, How Lovely is the Evening is an old singing round, perhaps from Germany, with sweet lyrics and pretty harmonies.  It is very short, and EASY to learn!  Find it here in many keys.

Three easy lines... and what could be easier than line 3, just one note repeated over and over?

If you want to have a little piano or guitar backup, just two chords, the I chord and the IV chord, will do the job. (In the key of Bb, shown above, that would be the Bb and Eb chords.  In the key of D, below, that would be the D and G chords.  For a better understanding of chord relationships, check out my page showing the 12 major scales and chords.)

The left hand accompaniment for this piano arrangement is just two pretty broken chords, alternating back and forth.  I suggest that you have your student study the Basic Chords and Scales sheet in the key of C; that will set them up for the chord inversions found in this song.

Also in the keys of F, and G

Piano sheet music for the round Oh How Lovely is the Evening

This setting requires a bit more skill than is needed to play in the key of C, because a Bb note is necessary in both hands.  Not too hard, though - and this is a nice range for singing the notes of this song!  Children's voices really do better up a bit higher than Middle C.
