Deep in the Heart of Texas
Sheet Music, Lyrics, Chords, Tabs

Deep in the Heart of Texas sheet music for piano duet partners.

This high energy song with a simple, repeating melody is SO MUCH FUN!

For some reason I haven't quite put my finger on yet, my students are really liking this song.  A couple of my more adept students have even combined the primo and secondo parts into a solo - not easy to play!

Music with energy

The duet sounds difficult, but the amount of repetition makes both primo and secondo very doable for second year students.

True, the secondo does  not appear to be easy reading , but it is the same two chords throughout the whole piece.

A walking bass makes it fun

The bass notes are thrilling, and move the song along!  Both players will enjoy them.

An unusual location for the primo performer

In Deep in the Heart of Texas, the melody will be played with the thumbs side by side.  Usually, we find thumbs sharing Middle C in this kind of piece.

With thumbs at F and G above Middle C, your student may have a bit of disorientation at first.  The stem directions will help, as will some gentle assistance with pressing fingers down.

A musical puppet and puppet master

Occasionally I will say, "You're the puppet; I'm the puppet master," and as they hold their fingers over the keys, I press their fingers down to play the notes.  It's a fun and fast way to learn part of a melody!

Though the melody is VERY EASY to play, it is not so easy to read.  The notes are up much higher than first-year students are accustomed to reading.  But your first year beginner is capable of playing this song if you assist their reading:

The first half of the melody has both fingering and AlphaNotes to assist reading and playing.

The second half of the melody is exactly the same as the first half!

I told you it is easy...
