Nutcracker music "Russian Dance" will perk up the ears of any young dancer who has participated in the Nutcracker ballet. 

This sheet music is short, but it is a satisfying arrangement!

Is this Nutcracker music easy?

Well... not particularly.  It moves VERY FAST, and involves a few jumps in the right hand.

However, just look at the left hand.  Aside from one short migration away from a G chord/scale position, the notes are all nicely settled in that 5-note scale area.

And after the acrobatics of the first three measures, the right hand also settles into a "G position" and stays there.

Though the video quality is sub-par, the dancing is superb, and the music is FAST with excellent energy.  This was my favorite of the videos I found!

This piece has a simple construction

At least, this page, which is only part of the larger composition, has a nice, predictable layout.  A B A B.  Look at the second half:

Different fingering is possible

Though the fingering I have placed is sensible, I found I couldn't get the speed I wanted when using finger 5 at the top of the little runs that begin measures one and nine.  Instead, I ended up using 1-2-3-4! to put energy into the first measure.  Your students will have to experiment.

What's different between the top & bottom of the page?

Only the final measure is different.

I did not put repeat dots at the bottom of the page, but I should have.  When you listen to a video recording of The Nutcracker, you will see that the music of this page (A B A B) is repeated!  Altogether, the form is A B A B    A B A B.
