I'm New to Guitar -- Which Notes Do I Play?

by Chrissy

Hi,

I am fairly new to playing guitar. I have a question about "Greensleeves". Above each measure is a chord diagram...Am, C, G, Em. Are those the notes I play or do I go by what is on the G clef?

Thanks.

Chrissy

Dana:

Hi, Chrissy,

The guitar can play EITHER the melody OR the chord accompaniment. If you choose to play chord "background", then use the chord symbols. If you want to play the singing part (the melody), then follow the notes on the G clef (also called the treble staff) -- the melody is also reproduced on the Tablature staff below each treble/G staff.

Chrissy:

Dana,

Thanks very much for answering my question...and so quickly. I have looked all over the web for the answer and couldn't find it.

Thanks again!

Best,
Chrissy
