I have a home studio and just started teaching 2 autistic boys (one in high school, the other 8 years old) and, among my other 15 students, I also have 3 students with learning challenges including dementia. I appreciate this article and the comments.
I too feel honored to teach autistic students and people with learning disabilities. I am part of their therapy which is more than a piano teacher because I love to connect with each student and teach to who they are. I consider myself a creative coach in music and life, giving my students self-confidence, inspiration, strength of character and the joy of music. I love what I do!!
