I have a question about your arrangement of Largo

by Paul
(Oxford, UK)

In your arrangement, the bass stave in bars 1, 5, 9, 13, 17 and 21 the notes don't seem to add up for the bar, as there are whole notes followed by eighth and quarter notes?? It might be my lack of experience of music, if it is please could you give me a quick explanation?

Best Regards,

Paul

Dana:

Hi, Paul,

That is an excellent question for a beginning pianist! What's going on is multiple VOICES... it is as if we have a group of singers, and the basses and tenors are sharing the bass stave, as they do in much hymn arranging. Notice that when 2 voices are shown, each voice will add up to 4 beats.

Hope that clears it up!
