Short Aria
I Dreamt That I Dwelt
in Marble Halls

Short aria "I Dreamt That I Dwelt in Marble Halls" may be familiar to your vocal students already, since it has been performed by Maev of the Celtic Woman singers on Celtic Journey. From the opera "The Bohemian Girl," it is the story of Arline, a gypsy girl who finds out that she is really the long-lost daughter of Count Arnheim of Austria, kidnapped in infancy but now recognized because of a scar she bears. The only problem for Arline now is that she still loves the gypsy boy... Your singers will be excited to have this lovely song!

Here is Meav from Celtic Woman singing this beautiful short aria:

Please be aware that in the interests of making the lead sheet 2 pages (and the piano/vocal version 4 rather than 7 pages) and saving ink, the music doubles back to the beginning -- a repeat. But there are many measures where the second verse has a different rhythm than in the first verse, so in these places, the second verse's notes have downward stems as if for an alto voice.

In the lead sheets, I have left off the long measures of empty rests both before and after the first verse... the vocalist will need to be very familiar with what the piano is doing, or have excellent communication with the accompanist!

Now here is the vocal/piano version, also in 4 keys. This version is For Sale for $2.75, below:

(August 18, 2011: I am also offering something new in a few weeks -- audio downloads of the piano accompaniments for many of the songs on my site, for vocal students and teachers! I believe these sound files will be very useful in expanding the vocal repertoire of singers and teachers alike. Check back later...)

By the way, if you purchase the versions in Bb or C, be careful to observe where the right hand accompaniment changes to the bass clef. I moved the melody from treble clef because those ledger line notes aren't easy to read!

So why should you buy "I Dreamt That I Dwelt in Marble Halls" from me, aside from the fact that music stores charge more for just one copy (not counting postage or sales tax!), while I am only charging $2.75 for the right to print three copies?

* It is available immediately as a digital download onto your computer.

* You don't have to download any new software into your computer in order to download this PDF. I don't know about you, but I hate clogging up my computer with yet another program I didn't know I needed. You just need a version of Adobe Acrobat or another PDF reader, which all computers come with. If you DON'T have Adobe Acrobat or a similar program, then you couldn't download any of my other PDFs either.

* The notes and lyrics are a little bigger than the copies currently available in music stores, making reading easier!

* Speaking of reading the music, you can print this music on any kind of paper you want, and thus avoid the glare of shiny pages (so irritating for accompanists!).

*Write and make notes all over these copies, in red and other colors, without feeling you are spoiling your music for posterity. I dislike messing up my music books, but learning the piece is always the first priority. These printouts will make great working copies.

* Do you need a letter of permission in order to use this music at a competition? Write me through the Contact Me form, and I will email you a personal letter.

* I give you permission to make up to three copies legally. Do I speak tongue-in-cheek? Not at all -- as music teachers, as music students, you know there are times when you need music RIGHT NOW and your only recourse is to make a copy of copyrighted music...or do without. (People do what they have to do, but there are consequences... Cheating...just a little...is hard on one's character. I believe this is one of the keys of political corruption, one little compromise after another. Not only that, but music teachers teach by example. What are your students learning from you about the value of the work of composers, arrangers, and publishers? Of the value of musicians in general?)

*Paypal, the payment system I use, is a secure and recognized payment system. You can pay by credit or debit card, or your bank account. E-Junkie delivers the PDF document, working as a partner with PayPal...your purchase is guaranteed.

Tip for Printing

Once you've got the PDF file for "I Dreamt That I Dwelt in Marble Halls" sheet music, feed just one page at a time, unless you know you have high-quality paper which won't grab extra sheets when being pulled through the feeder.

Sumi-Jo sings this song in a lower key than Meav of Celtic Woman, the key of Bb:

Lori, homeschool mom, songwriter/musician and private music teacher:
Just wanted to say "thank you" for this site and for all of your dedication and hard work! I have literally combed the internet for months on end to find free and "doable" resources for my young students and for my own children, whom I have homeschooled for nine years. I will be returning to this site over and over again from here on out and am excited to present some of the tools I found today on here to my voice and piano students later this week! My thirteen-year old son is happily, as I type, working with the guitar chord sheets I just printed for him! Wish I'd found you earlier! Thanks a million, and God bless--

April: Thank you so much for all the information and materials! Your site is very thorough and well organized! I am a piano teacher in New Orleans, LA and in the process of putting together my own curriculum and recordings. You have inspired me to make my materials available to all online!
