Playing The Piano Really Well

by Isabella

How do you know that you are playing well or great for the people you are playing for?

Dana:

Hi, Isabella,

This is something that you may not be able to judge until you have played for a few years.

Playing really well is more than performing with no mistakes; it also means an ease with the technical aspects of the piece (instead of stumbling and halting your way through it), and it means putting FEELING into the music, as my own piano teacher used to say.

It doesn't matter how simple the music is. Even the simplest music has the power to move us. Musical phrases that have movement and direction, which feel alive as if they are SAYING something, whether there are lyrics or not --this is music to which people will want to listen.

Thank you for the beautiful picture!
