"To Gabrielle, Address: Heaven"
& "Angel in the Sky"

To: Gabrielle, Address: Heaven, & a second song, Angel in the Sky, were written when a local young girl, greatly loved, died quite  suddenly. Music is necessary in these times.

Song for a memorial service for a young girl

This page with its two songs is dedicated to Gabrielle E.

The first song, To: Gabrielle -- Address: Heaven, was sung at the memorial service for a beautiful young girl in our town. Writing this song helped me in the first shock of my own grief.

This girl died very suddenly

Gabrielle was only 13 when she died suddenly of pneumonia, a condition which grew rapidly upon her all in one week.

Her death stunned us who had known her, because she was everywhere, and so alive.

So alive, so artistic, so good-natured

Very active in dance, she was a singer and talented pianist (one of my students), she was a fine fiddler in a Bluegrass/Celtic string group called "The Fiddleheads," and she was a friend of my daughter and of just about every young girl in town close to her age.

We do not sorrow as the world sorrows

This song expresses my personal feelings, and I know the feelings of many others, at losing her to our time and place... but our sorrow will be only for a short space of time, because Gabrielle knew Him Who set the stars in their course.

Perhaps this song can bring some comfort to others

This song is offered here for free on my website in the hope that it will help comfort some who are currently going through the hell of that most dreadful kind of loss, the death of a child.

And an additional memorial song

This second song, written by a student of mine, was also composed out of a broken heart when Gabrielle died. Many others of my students have played, sung, and loved Maura's song "Angel in the Sky."

Angel in the Sky for Gabriella

The simple repetition of the chord pattern in the left hand has made this song very easy to conquer for a lot of students.

Song for a funeral
Song for a memorial service
Sad songs about death

Please remember that both of these songs are copyrighted, and any use of them aside from private gatherings (non-monetary in nature) is forbidden.
